wiki-waki-woo-2

I think wiki's would be great for patrons looking for recomendations for reading or listening. It would be easy to create bibliographies fast and easy. Like recommendations for other reading for Philippa Gregory when the Boleyn books were hot.

I did my entry early. Can't wait to read everyone's favorites. I added my favotite movie to the movie section.

web 2.0 or 3.0 or more?

From "Away from the “icebergs” - The “just in case” collection Crazy as this may sound, the time has come for us to look skeptically at the very idea of a library “collection.” Building a comprehensive collection of materials that anticipates the user’s every need (without providing wastefully where no need exists) has always been problematic, but it was an approach that made sense when information was available only in print formats, and was therefore difficult, expensive and slow to distribute. But it no longer makes sense to collect information products as if they were hard to get. They aren’t. In fact, it may no longer make sense to “collect” in the traditional sense at all. In my library, we’ve seen a 55 percent drop in circulation rates over the past twelve years, making it harder and harder to justify the continued buildup of a large “just in case” print collection. As a Web 2.0 reality continues to emerge and develop, our patrons will expect access to everything – digital collections of journals, books, blogs, podcasts, etc. You think they can’t have everything? Think again. This may be our great opportunity. How do we define libraries to our governmental "bosses" to see beyond the old definition of libraries so they will fund and support the changes we need to make? If they only see or hear about the "end of the book " they may only see a way to cut funds.

Found a great site to read: 50 Tips for Implementing User-Generated Content in Your Libraryhttp://oedb.org/ blogs/ ilibrarian/ 2008/ 50-tips-for-implementing-user-generated-co...

yum yum or delicious

An easy way to create bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere - sure, yes. And don't belittle that idea. Staff sometimes spend hours searching/researching useful sites and it's a waste when it is hard to share this information with others.

RSS

I found out how many of my favorite sites offer RSS that I had not noticed or hadn't recognized. Like for "The Onion" humor website.
